Loving People IS ALWAYS worth the cost. It’s messy and painful, but the obedience of surrendering to “love others” never returns void. It can’t – because God never returns Himself void. Biblical Love – the only true love – is God manifesting Himself in us so that His love and His presence are experienced here on earth through us! 1 John 3:16 tells us that “this is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down
his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” This kind of love, God’s love, is the only power that creates, gives birth to new life, and is the only thing that will remain in the end. God’s love through us brings God’s Kingdom to earth! But the hard questi
on is this: “What would it take for this kind of love to become the controlling power in my life?” Each of us interacts with people who are difficult to love! They don’t think, live or act like us, yet we’ve been smiling and nodding at them for years and calling it “love” – though it’s never cost us anything! But here’s the thing – Jesus said that “the world would know that we were his disciples if we love one another” (John 13:35). So what if God has placed difficult people into your life for the sole purpose of revealing how little you really love like Jesus? We can’t just “fake it till we make it” – real love requires real work! We have to intentionally “see” the people around us, showing them genuine kindness, loving them sacrificially with our time, money, service and hospitality. We have to tear down our own defensive walls and actually let people into our lives and our hearts, praying for them and loving them enough to share the Gospel and disciple them ourselves. There is no middle of the road in this – we don’t get to call ourselves “believers” and not actually LOVE people! We are either in the battle to push back the darkness in their lives or we are contributing to it! Which of these would Jesus say you’re doing if He looked at how you’re loving the “least of these” in your world?
